Paintless Dent Removal – Explained
What is PDR / Paintless Dent Removal or Repair
PDR is the repair process of removing cosmetic auto body damage without the need to repaint the damaged area. PDR is the short form for Paintless Dent Removal also known as Paintless Dent Repair. With this technique the technician uses special tools from behind the panel to push the dented area to it's original factory finish, or the technician could use the new method called GPDR, meaning Glue Pulling Dent Removal or Repair, this is a method of using special glue to repair the dented area from the outside of the panel.
Understanding how this skill came about
As far as it's known this skill was developed way back in the sixties by car manufactures such as Mercedes, out of the need to repair damaged vehicles with dings and dents made at the assembly line. PDR wasn't as popular back then as it is today! While there's still quite a lot of people unaware of this repair process, Paintless Dent Repair has taken a giant leap in the last few years.
Advantages of having your vehicle repaired by this method
The advantage and benefits to have your vehicle repaired by the PDR process is quality, quality as close as if the dent was never there. There is no grinding off the original paint finish, no application of fillers, like bondo, primers, and finally new fresh paint that could lead to colour mismatch etc. Another benefit is price, the cost of a small dent repaired by a body shop could reach $400, $500, or more? As an example the same dent repaired by the PDR method could cost $100 to $200. Time is another benefit, the repair could done in less than an hour, as opposed to a body shop taking 4 to 6 days with your vehicle.
Dents, Dings, Creases, Hail damage, and the limits of this process
Understanding the few limits of Paintless Dent Removal. This method may not be a suitable solution to repair the damaged area on your vehicle, if the paint finish on the vehicle is cracked, chipped, or has extensive damage exceeding the limits of PDR. Paintless Dent Removal is a great repair technique for dings, dents, creases, and some bigger cosmetic damage deriving from small fender benders.
